Takeaways

Creating opportunities for others also creates opportunities for yourself. This week we discuss creating artist-run spaces and coops.

What is a Co-op?

“Co-op” stands for cooperation. A co-op is a group of people who have come together to pool resources, share in decision-making and governance, and spread out financial risk. Co-ops operate from the knowledge that collectivity lets you accomplish more, and that the people create value for an institution should also be able to make decisions about how it operates.

What is an Artist Run Space?

An artist-run space or artist-run centre (Canada) is a gallery or other facility operated or directed by artists, frequently circumventing the structures of public art centers, museums, or commercial galleries and allowing for a more experimental program.

This type of model can be used for renting a studio space with other artists that you can utilize for Studio Visits.
